Tasting notes
2008 Csillero del Diablo Carmenere
Chile - Rapel Valley

10
**

12/2009 Nice wine - medium body and fruit. Tasted this wine along with some Spanish wines. This was a bit lighter wine, but quite a deal a $10.
2005 Melipal Malbec (Argentina)

***

12/2008 Nice wine - medium body and fruit. Tasted this wine along with some Spanish wines, which seemed more well rounded (due to oak).
2005 Luigi Bosca
Single vineyard Malbec (Argentina)

11/2008 Very nice - Big body, nice nose, good fruit. This wine has more depth than most, seems ready to drink.
2004 Casa da Silva Carmenere
Chile - Colchagua Valley

10

01/2007 Nice - medium body, good fruit. This has good balance, and is a good deal at that price.
2004 Concha y Toro  Diablo - Carmenere
Chile - Colchagua Valley

**

01/2007 Nice - light body, medium fruit. This has good balance, but it was overshadowed by the Casa da Silva (above). A good deal at that price.
2003 Envero
Chile - Colchagua Valley

12/2006 Nice - big body, medium fruit. This is a blend of 85% Carmenere and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. We had this with grilled beef - really good. It is very intense, and I found it hard to drink with lighter foods.
2004 Apaltagna Carmenere
Chile - Colchagua Valley

***

12/2006 Very nice - medium body and fruit. This wine really grows in the glass. At first, it seems light bodied. But after about 20 minutes, it opens up nicely. This wine is very good for the price!
2001 Rothschild / Catena Caro (Argentina)

07/2005 Very nice - big body and fruit. This is a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. We had this with grilled beef, and it was great. Expensive, but worth the price.

03/2003 Very nice - medium body, good fruit. This has excellent balance, but it takes about four years to show well. I buy 3-4 bottles each year to put away until it matures.
1994 Malbec
Bodega Weinert (Argentina)

***

07/2000 Very nice - medium body, good fruit. This wine has more depth due to age than the Carrascal. It tastes similar to a Merlot. The price is a bit high for this wine.
1996 Carrascal
Bodega Weinert (Argentina)

13
***

07/2000 Very nice - medium body, good fruit. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Merlot. It was young and lively and fruity, and much more palatable than the Cavas de Weinert. This wine is very good for the price!
1993 Cavas de Weinert
Bodega Weinert (Argentina)

07/2000 Fair - This wine is basically a fancier, longer aged version of the Carrascal. It is a big bodied wine, but the fruit was dried out. No one really liked it much. Not recommended.
1995 McGuigan
Black Label (Australia)

03/1999 Very nice - medium body, good fruit. This has excellent balance, but it takes three years after vintage to show well. I buy 3-4 bottles each year to put away until it matures.
