Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon "tasting"

In October of 2006, we held an informal tasting of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. These wines have gotten a lot of favorable press lately, so I was intrigued. I tried finding the really cheap versions (non-reserve) of these wines, all of which are less than $10, but I was not successful.

We tasted the wines while eating spaghetti with Basil Pesto Sauce. We re-tasted the wines afterwards as well. All three of the wines are worth buying, since they are reasonably priced.

The consensus favorite was the Valdivieso Reserve, which is also the cheapest of the wines. The Casa Lapostolle seemed a bit tannic, and probably needs a couple of years of bottle age.
